summer activities

There is a wide variety of activities available in the immediate vicinity of the apartment and further afield. Obviously with such a large, clean, warm and beautiful lake right on our doorstep, the water based facilities are superb, but this is also an area renowned for paragliding and other mountain activites for adreneline junkies, or stunning scenery and excellent restaurants for those who wish to savour a more sedate pace to their holiday!

Search on the internet or at the tourist office and you find many more providers of all of the activities below. However, as we realise that your holiday time is precious we have tried to provide links to the most local.

boat hire - motorboats, kayak/canoe, rowing boats.

There are boat hire pontoons at many locations around the lake but a large number are situated on the lake edge at Le Pâquier which is directly opposite the apartment. Here you can hire motorboats both with and without a permit, to enjoy piloting your own craft around the lake as well as pedaloes, with and without slides for swimming.

waterskiing and wakeboarding

WaterskiingPast the Imperial Park and just past the Plage d'Albigny you will find wakeboarding and waterskiing at Ponton JOSSERAND "les Roseaux" or Ponton "Jacky". They cater for all levels from beginner to expert and have gear to borrow if necessary. Open May to September or offseason by appointment. Free car park opposite or a 10 minute walk along the lakeside from apartment.

sailing

Between June and mid September you can hire sailing boats from the Société des Régates à Voile d'Annecy for 2 hours upwards and they also offer lessons. They are based down at the rue des Marquisats.

There are also sailing schools at Sevrier, Doussard, Talloires and Menthon-Saint-Bernard.

paragliding/ hang gliding

Lake Annecy and the Aravis area is one of the foremost locations for paragliding in Europe over 80 flying sites in the Annecy area. There are a number of take-off and landing sites from the slopes surrounding the lake or you can head up to nearby resorts suc as le Grand Bornand and La Clusaz where there are sites accessed by chairlift.

Take off sites near to Lake Annecy:

  • Planfait is the most popular paragliding site at Lake Annecy. It has a forest-track to the take off with an adventure park for non-pilots and a good restaurant at the landing. Breathtaking views and lots of cross-country possibilities.
  • Les Fretes is an hour's walk from Planfait with breathtaking view over lake and mountain. It has marvellous soaring in the morning withsoutherly winds and straight into the thermals in the afternoon
  • Col de la Forclaz is the popular take-off at Montmin. 10 minute walk to newly opened take-off site but gets very busy in summer.
  • Roc des Boeufs is reached via a footpath from Entrevernes which is pretty little village. It has a narrow take-off area and often strong winds in the mid-afternoon
  • Semnoz is just to the south and east of Annecy. Inflating, short flights with peaceful longer flights possibilities in the evening but not many XC-possibilities.
  • Seythenex-Sambuy is situated just above Faverge. You take a chairlift to the top and 15 minutes' walk to the take off. Flights are mainly cross-country to the South.

There are schools offering tuition and tandem flights at most locations. A flight over Lake Annecy is an unforgetable experience.

bike and rollerblade rental plus guided bike tours

cyclingROUL' ma POULE has two locations near to us for bike hire, at rue des Marquisats and avenue du Petit Port. They also hire tandems and scooters, plus kayaks at the avenue de Petit Port shop. There are some suggested routes you can download on their site. The cycle track down the west side of the lake is a dedicated non motorised traffic roadway with lovely views of the mountains on the east of the lake.

swimming

You can swim in the lake at the various Plages near to the apartment. The nearest, Plage de l'Imperial also has a diving platform and paddling pool. If you prefer to swim in a pool, Marquisats Swimming Pool and Beach is open from early May to early September and has three pools plus lots of other facilities. (29, rue des Marquisats).

fishing and diving

As the lake is so clean this is a great area for both fishing and diving. Fishing is possible for 6km around the Val de Fier. There is a fishing guide available at Chalet Information Point I, 9 avenue du Petit Port or at the tourist office.

Diving is possible to various interesting sites including the wreck of "The France", the last franch steamship which sank in 1971. There are schools and clubs open all the year offering initiation and exploration dives, youth and night dives, certification CMAS/PADI etc.

mountain adventure activities

There are many companies offering different adreneline packed experiences.

Annecy Adventure offer both summer and winter activities and adventures for families and groups - anything from walking/raquettes to mountaineering and white water rafting. Have a look at their site which highlights the different activities available around Lac d' Annecy at any time.

walking

walking above talloiresThe tourist office has lots of information and printed routes for suggestions of walks in the area. They will be happy to help you choose a walk suitable for your level. You can also find companies offering guided day walks or head up in the mountains by car or bus and call in at one of the tourist offices in the resorts. They all have routes and printed leaflets with suggestions available. There is a bus which goes from the Bonlieu at the corner of Rue Jean Jaures and Rue Sommeiller up to St Jean de Sixt, La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand and on the way back it drops you off at the "l'arrêt Préfecture Pâquier" which is even closer to the apartment. Each of these resorts are surrounded by stunning scenery and has many lovely walking routes.

Nearer to Annecy the area up around Semnoz is truely beautiful walking country www.semnoz.fr/ or one the east coast of the lake, Talloires has many marked tracks taking you to picturesque spots overlooking the lake. If you are feeling more active, you can walk to three of the highest tops around the lake: La Tournette : 2351m, Les Dents de Lanfon : 1824m, Le Lanfonnet : 1768m from Talloires.

There are two fantastic 18 hole golf courses on the shore of lac d'Annecy: one in Talloires on the Roc de Chère nature reserve with a panoramic view of lac Annecy, and the Ch√Ęteau de Menthon http://www.golf-lacannecy.com/index.php and one in Giez looking out over lac d'Annecy and Mont Blanc. http://www.golfdegiez.fr/#

animal parks

peacock at AnnecyAnnecy has its own animal park at the Grande Jeanne Animal Park. This is free to enter, open on Wednesdays, at weekends and in school holidays. It is situated Avenue du Crêt du Maure, La Grande Jeanne, a park extending over 10,500 sq and houses varieties of deer, sheep and local wildlife.

There is an aviary at the Imperial Hotel Park just five minutes walk away.

Head south towards Albertville and you will see Parc animalier "La Balade" located on route d'Annecy at Faverges. This is a wildlife park with more than 450 animals and 100 different breeds. Pony rides, picnic area, refreshment bar, ice-creams.

play-parks and Ditto trainAt the Imperial Hotel Park there are a variety of childrens activities, play-parks and Ditto train. Some are free and some are within the Plage d'Annecy grounds where for a reasonable charge there a great variety of activities available.

Have a look at the wide variety of activities up at Semnoz, with a summer toboggan run, go karts, biking and more - all in a gorgoues setting if you can persuade everyone to enjoy a walk as well!
